Al Qaeda musters its own surge in Iraq

Al Qaeda musters its own surge in Iraq

So, there are about a billion muslims. If even one percent decide to take up arms to fight the internationalists, that's ten million fighters. It's a safe assumption by now that freedom to have a fast food joint serving halal burgers or low low prices at the supermart isn't really a treasured value for these people.

But even as officials in the United States and Iraq made public pronouncements that reveled in Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia’s demise, the Sunni insurgent group vowed “dark days colored in blood.”

This summer, as if to make good on its pledge, Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia embarked on a wave of terror that managed to shake even an Iraqi public inured to violence: during the past two months, Iraq has witnessed some of its highest casualty tolls in more than two years, according to the government.

Having lived this mockery myself I can see why they would be quite unhappy. Al Qaeda in Iraq is a joke however. The Mehdi Army is something to contend to. Sunni Islam, while a substantial presence in Iraq is nothing compared to the more brutal Shia resistance. Example. 4/4/2004, Haji had his shit TOGETHER!!!!
I will slash and burn and salt the earth so that nothing will grow.

Its just propaganda, the Awakening Councils and the American surge killed off the Wahhabist movement in Iraq... there is no outside state to support it and no internal support.  I'd be more worried about the Shia groups who have a powerful backer in Iran.  The fundamental truth of insurgency warfare is that there must be outside state support for there to be any hope of victory.  Read Mao's book Guerrilla Warfare.  Even a very feeble state can defeat an insurgent group that does not have outside support.

There would be nothing funnier than if Al Qaeda really was what the Bush administration wanted the population to think it was. So the average Joe moron could have all their racist fantasies come true. Muhammed El Hookhands bursting into the bedroom at night, tying them up, dousing them in oil then lighting it as the dirty turban wearing Arab rapes his wife.
