The exploitation is a two way street however. Ara and Ulcerate took Gorguts’ Obscura and made it fashionable for today’s metalcore audience. Cannibal Corpse dumbed down Sodom and Sepultura before dumbing down Malevolent Creation (who was already dumb) and they inspired a legion of bands that are somehow worse through exploiting death metal imagery until they rose through the ranks. Remember, Opeth is now receiving accolades for making what is a parody of 70s prog rock nowadays. Though, looking at the tag “the fall of modern civilization”… it seems it is at hand. It isn’t uncommon for 12 year old girls to post 2 girls 1 cup reaction videos on youtube and now abominations like Eskimo Callboy or Nachtmystium… What’s left for the future generation aside from a legacy of hubris?

That’s not really comparable at all.

There is much worse out there. Dubstep is the new Disco. At least it isn’t a rap/pop formula with distorted “metal” guitar riffs pretending to be appeasing the *cough* suburban teenagers that are distracted by the flavor of the week MTV trends. What’s that TV show again? 16 and pregnant? Perhaps this should be the theme song to all of the kids that make bad decisions and ruin their entire lives.

16 and pregnant is true art.
