Ex-Celtic Frost guitarist and compose Tom G. Warrior releases the second album of his Triptykon project, Melana Chasmata (“dark valleys”) on April 14 in Europe and April 15 in the USA through Century Media Records/Prowling Death Records Ltd.
This follows up on the first Triptykon album, Eparistera Daimones, which introduced the modern speed metal (think Pantera or a more artistic and slower Meshuggah) style mixed with Gothic and doom metal elements that so far has characterized the band.
The album will clock in at 67 minutes of music and will feature an HR Giger cover. Century Media has planned several special releases including a box set and a single on vinyl to commemorate the album. The band has recorded additional music to be released as an EP or mini album later in 2014 or early in 2015.

Now that is an interesting cover. Is that Tom G’s style now? Get the best cover he possibly can to try and trick people into buying his boring trite? Still… the cover is awesome.
One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of metal musicians alternate generations between aesthetic development and artistic development. Thus they start a new style with an album, but it’s the album after that where they really get going. This could be the case with Triptykon; we simply don’t know yet. This album will be less rushed than the first.

Giger’s work also appeared on the cover of “To Mega Therion”.
Perhaps this time around we can get the continuation from Monotheist we were waiting for with the first. Not necessarily in style, but at least in content / artistic integrity. Tom Warrior is a great artist and has recovered from pretty bad stuff in the past. Compromising one`s art can be a death blow to the artistic spirit, like so many young and fiery seminal metal bands demonstrated, but this man is considerably more mature; and I dont mean that in a personal sense.
I never had any issues with the first album, so I’m very excited for this. I do agree in hoping for something more along the lines of Monotheist though.
I don’t know, Monotheist was kinda fuckin boring. It had a great dark characteristic, but left it hanging at the door while the music droned on.
Exactly how I feel. The two sample tracks put up about a day ago went nowhere. Just open string chugging and angst.
