Sorath / Unclean
Matache Chavale / Tam Kdesj Vhlubinách
[Pussy God]

This has been released on the infamous Czech label "Pussy God Records" known for giving the public some fairly interesting releases from other Czech bands (such as Darkstorm and Maniac Butcher). This latest CD release by two fairly unknown Czech bands going by the names Sorath (*not* Mike Ford of Black Funeral's band) and Unclean is also quite well done, and introduces two very above average bands to the public. Let's take a brief look at each band:

SORATH: Sorath play a very fast, almost Darkthrone-esque style of raw black metal, although they have a far greater amount of melody than the before mentioned band. Quite sick sounding if you were to ask me, and also very successful. Their side of the split starts out with a great intro filled with mindless screaming, and then blasts into a nice instrumental section. We're then treated to 6 impressive songs, all filled with fast paced drums, thick sounding riffs, and great (albeit a tad bit generic) low pitched black metal rasps. In concern to the riffs, they are quite nice sounding, yet also raw enough to give an angry, cold feeling. Somewhat reminiscent of various thrash riffs at times.

UCLEAN: Unclean play a style far different sounding than Sorath, and create a more Greek sound, rather than one that reminds me of older Norwegian black metal (like Sorath do). Unclean do sound quite similar (or are at least in the same audio league) as such bands as older Rotting Christ and older Master's Hammer. Their five lengthy songs aren't quite as up front or well produced as Sorath, but they still are quite pleasing for fans of that earlier style of black metal. Slow to mid paced, atmospheric, and filled with deep, almost vomit like rasps. To tell you the truth, while not as exciting as Sorath, nor nearly as sick and cold sounding, Unclean are an excellent band, and if you take the time to listen to and enjoy their songs, they turn out to be very above average.

Overall a very exciting and well done release. While neither of these bands exactly chart new territory, they still are both very much above average, and deserve some credit for that. The almost opposite sound quality of the two bands is also a nice touch, since it really sounds like a *split* CD :)
