Profanum are a three piece Polish band, and have a CD out already on the Astral Wings label. The music on this demo is a tad different than the disc, although follows the same formula, an excellent formula if you ask me. Profanum are one of the few bands out there that use atmosphere in a *scary* way, the music is all VERY nicely keyboard heavy, yet in a non-generic way. Although similar to Polish black metal on many a level, they differ themselves from the general scene by using their keyboards up front, and using them in a particular style. Dark, smooth, and frightening are the keywords here. When the music isn't following the keyboards, it goes into a rawer style, coupled with blast beats here and there, quite similar to other bands you'd find in the Polish scene (i.e, raw guitars, cranky/drunken yet raspy vocals etc.). Simply put this band is excellent. The keyboards on this demo (and on the LP) are bloody great, should not be overlooked, and deserve some credit for creating actual *black* metal. Support this band so they can produce more excellent tunes.
