Primordial
A Journey's End
[Misanthropy]

Nationalism, transformed into powerful music, is equal to nothing less than perfection. I will admit that I was less than impressed with this album the first time I listened to it. Ah, but I was blinded by a long day, a clouded mind, and various other events that managed to prevent me from understanding it. This is a exceptionally EXCELLENT release, and it deserves heaps of respect.

The reason why I was probably less than impressed the first time I heard this was because of the lack of wonderful screams that filled the first album. For the most part, these screams have left completely, replaced by clean and somber singing. This is not a bad thing. I assume Mr.Averill has taken a good deal of singing lessons since the first LP. This instead makes the music doomy and melancholic.

Take the incredible "Dark Song" for example. An incredibly powerful folk song, lead by equally epic lyrics. For those of you hailing form Ireland, you'll obviously find something special in this. The last line is sung with such passion….amazing.

Sure, there's a few 'black metal' moments here and there. And doomy, dark metal still leads the way. But there's such an excellent folk atmosphere here. Combined with the flawless lyrics, this release is nothing less than uniquely Irish.

The year is coming to an end. Unless something pops up out of nowhere, this will easily be my choice for album of the year. If you appreciate depressing, dark, and original metal, then this will be the release for you. I personally can't seem to remove it from my CD player.
