Vlad Tepes
War Funeral March
[Embassy]

Vile production, horrible packaging, lousy usage of musical instruments...an album with this sort of an introduction would most likely suck....but it doesn't. If your only form of enjoyed music is over-produced whore black metal like Cradle of Filth and newer Dimmu Borgir, than I suggest you skip this, but if you like evil, violent, and fucking sickly raw black metal like Graveland, Countess, and (some) Darkthrone...than I suggest you check this out. The album is not quite as badly produced/executed as say Ildjarn (who are a great band, but sometimes go too far with their "rawness") yet Vlad Tepes still provide us with some badly made (around the same lines as Countess), sick music. The mCD lasts for only 20 or so minutes with 5 tracks, but at it's completion, leaves you wishing there was more...luckily V.T have split CD's with Belketre and Torgeist out there :). Production wise, the heavily distorted guitars are very much up front, providing somewhat of a basis for the rest of the music to start/work itself out. The guitar riffs are actually quite cool, lot's of interesting sections can be found all over the place, everything from brutal grinding licks to more melodic ones. Mixed with the raw evil vocals (with vary all over the place) and the badly produced drums, we're all treated to a sick and badly made, yet at the same time really delightful disc. This disc should only go out to one half of the black metal population though, those of us who enjoy raw, vile sounding tunes, rather than the over-hyped and over-done newer brand of stuff. Excellent really.
