Luciferion
Demonification : The Manifest
[Listenable/Osmose]

A death metal band being marketed as a black metal band? I was really interested in tracking this album down for quite a period of time, mainly because people had told me everything ranging from "This is the best death metal album since the first Deicide" or "The best recent death metal album". Sadly, while being very easy to listen to (said in a good way), quite brutal, and for the most part excellent, Luciferion are *very* generic. The first time I listened to this album, I couldn't help but say "This is a pretty good Deicide album". And it's true, this Swedish trio sound *exactly* like Deicide, touched off with a Morbid Angel riff or two, plus some more black metal sections. The album jumps off into a very nice intro, and then into a well-done keyboard section, which sounds more like it belongs on a black metal album than this. Musically, the album goes into some very Deicide sections. Drums, guitars, solos (yes, even the solos are similar), and especially the vocals (which sound more like David Vincent, plus Glen Benton's blackish screams). The guitar's are really quite good, and follow some more melodic structures and pleasing solos. Super fast when not concentrating on being heavy, Luciferion even jump into a black metal vocals only track, and the total butchering of a Sodom track (this is not a highlight). Of excellent quality, nice to listen to, but far to generic to call "amazing".
