Fenriz' of Darkthrone's side project of "viking rock" mixed with a couple of excellent black metal songs. Most of the songs follow a general pattern, some heavy guitars and drumming, Fenriz' clean singing (quite well actually) for five songs, and then two fucking great black metal tracks. I'll try to make this short and sweet because I feel like eating these corn-dog's lying in front of me:). Anyways my favorite non BM track on the album is "Over de syngende ode moer" which contains some great singing over a riff which matches it. Bloody great stuff really. Track 6 on the other hand is one of the finest black metal songs ever if you ask me, "Thornspawn Chalice". This is *AMAZING*-the song starts out in a typical Darkthrone fashion, but quickly jumps into some fucking great melodies like those heard on tracks one and four on Darkthrone's "Panzerfaust" album. The vocals here are very much like those on Panzerfaust (although I was told that Nocturno Culto did them on that particular album)-not as brutal-yet pushed to more extreme levels at times. Amazing really-personally I was happy purchasing this album just for that one song. It's one of those tracks that you can listen to over and over for weeks on end without getting the least bit bored. Track 7 "Total Death" is also another excellent BM track, which makes me think Fenriz' decided not to toss these onto a Darkthrone disc to prove to everyone that he's the "true" talent in the group. A fun album-original, not the least bit boring, melodic, and topped off with two of the finest black metal tracks ever.
