Sacramentary Abolishment
The Distracting Stone
[Independent release/Catharasis]

Wow. This truly is the most violent, hateful, and overall vile sounding album that has ever found it's way into my disc player. To give you an impression of just *how* vicious sounding it is; the first time I listened to it, I ended up constantly biting my lower lip. By the end of the album, my mouth was dripping blood, and I now have a huge gaping wound inside my mouth :)

SA released another CD last year entitled "River of Corticone" which was by all respects a solid effort, although the over abundance of slow paced "doom" sections, and the fact that the album didn't quite "flow" at times made it less than perfect. I really enjoyed the first CD though, and still consider it to be very sick sounding, but this.....this!!!...it's almost too hard to describe in mere words.
Sacramentary Abolishment play a well-developed style of super-fast and hate filled black....and on this new release, make *EVERY* extreme metal band on the face of the earth seem *so* weak, *so* silly, and so very pathetic sounding. When I say "super-fast" though, I'm not referring to your typical or mindless Dark Funeral album either...the songs are well composed, filled with numerous pace and riff changes, drum stops every two seconds, and huge amounts of vocal variations.
Everything has progressed since the last CD though (using that as a point of reference)...the music is so much more interesting, the drums are faster and more varied (!!)...and the vocals are simply mind blowing. They jump around in every direction ranging from screams, "wails" (in a crazed banshee sort of way), lower pitched (and original sounding, not to mention so very sick and extreme) black metal vocals...simply mind blowing. Musically, the riffs are more like "riffs" now, rather than just thick chord sections. They are quite interesting at times, sometimes very violent, sometimes even depressing in a negative sense....and sometime just plain old fashion grim feeling. The bass also works well with the music, it can be felt with the music, and guides it nicely, especially in the "speed-stop" sections. In reference to the drums though....there truly is nothing more amazing than this. Paulus is easily one of the best metal drummers out there, his playing is so very fast sounding, alters itself with the blink of an eye, and is filled with some of the best bell hits on a metal album, period. I've mentioned before my love for Graveland because they are such a sad and hateful sounding band. Sacramentary Abolishment are now on the same level as this band, but on a different side of the spectrum. Where as Graveland create a more simple and less obvious form of audio aggression, SA get right in your face, and instead of concentrating more on speed (they probably are one of the fastest metal bands out there if not the fastest) they create a far superior aura of pure and total hatred. Nothing will quench your thirst for total anger as this album will, and simply because it's actually interesting at the same time as being so horribly sick sounding, it's easily one of the finest extreme metal discs of 1997. You can quote me over, and over, and over in reference to that, just because with one listen to this, you'll most likely agree (if you like violent metal that is). Eleven tracks, and fifty five minutes of a CD that's been in my player *exclusively* for 5 days now.
