Ember
Within The Realm of the Snowqueen
[independent]

Most people will have heard of Ember somewhere in the underground by now, especially if you've been living in North America, but since I've only recently been living here, (when I lived here a year or so before this band had yet to come into the light) I had yet to hear anything from them. I tossed this demo into the my player, not expecting much and simply listened away.
I'm going to get my point into the light before continuing with this review though. This is AMAZING music. Comparing this demo to the handful's I receive each month, Ember are head and shoulder's above almost any other band out there in the extreme metal scene. The simple combination of riffs, original and very brutal sounding vocals, and some nice drumming make this three song cassette worth tracking down in any form.
Peter's vocals are the first highlight I simply must point out. Original and screamed at violent levels, they carry the music to near epic heights. The simple yet atmospheric riffs that are laid under the screams create an aura that bands have trouble producing without the usage of keyboards, and combining these with the tight drums, a truly great demo is created. Simple, at times melodic, at times brutal, but always above average would be the best way to conclude this. Without a doubt worth tracking down. Ember have another demo out now as well, and according to a contact, will be featured on cult French label Embassy Productions compilation album. Watching so much garbage coming out of the modern metal scene and being whored off while these guys haven't received a decent record deal surpasses my idea of "logic".

No contact given, but Red Stream (see links page) and a few other distros carry this
