Baltak
[Battlegod]

Now that my ears have stopped bleeding and I've repaired my now broken stereo speakers, I've decided to do a review on this album. Baltak are from Australia, their debut album lasts for a good 40 minutes, and they posses the impressive musical talent of being VERY fucking loud. This album really is not that good, but it's just so fucking extreme that it deserves *some* credit (and a congratulations for being *so* extreme). Musically, these guys take some credit from some of the more insane grindcore bands out there, and mix it with a tad bit of Immortal's thick, violent sound. Even though I've heard that a real drummer was used on this album, I somehow don't believe that...or at least they've done what was done on Nightfalls "Macabre Sunsets" album, and combined a drum machine and a few actual drum parts. The guitars are basically Immortal-ish, fast paced riffing, thick, but SO much louder and grinding (and less silly sounding). Coupled with the supremely screamed vocals (and I mean screamed, I've never heard someone belch out vocals like this in a long time..not since the earlier days of Bestial Summoning, Beherit, Abigail...and those don't even compare) we're offered some chaotic, yet very mindless tunes. Yes mindless. Although some of the songs on this LP go far beyond being simply *bind-blowing* (they really are..some of the songs here are fucking great), the tracks here eventually go nowhere, and all they end up doing is shocking you with how insane they are, but after a listen or two, heavily disappoint. Nothing more to say about this album, if you feel like having the shit beaten out of your eardrums for 40 or so minutes this is your album, but if your looking for some quality, melodic tightness, I wouldn't recommend picking this up. One thing great about this disc though is just how much *better* it sounds when your stinking drunk. I hereby announce this (right up there with Stormlord's "Under the Sign of the Sword") the best (and official) drunken extreme-metal CD:).
