Damnation
Rebel Souls
[Last Epitaph]

This is another secondary option I received in the mail from FMP. It comes in a digipak, so they couldn't break the jewel case before sending it. I really wish they would keep some stock in.

But now that I have it, I'm actually quite pleased with it. I've heard a lot from this band, and really like some of the musicians in it (Nergal and Les from Behemoth, although Nergal does not play on this recording, and Inferno who played on the most recent Behemoth mCD) so I was quite happy to load it into the CD player. I was just recently sent the demo's from the band, so I really can't compare on anything....this will be a cold review basically.

The CD starts out with a laid back intro with some basic chanting and keyboards. But what comes next I was not expecting....BRUTAL (!!) death metal with a minor hint of blackness. Morbid Angel yet a great deal faster came to mind immediately. A little Vader too because of the drum production, some of the riffs...and the fact that both bands are Polish :)

This is very, very (very!) fast death metal. The drumming speed is really quite excellent in my mind, and combined with some of the killer riffs and sick vocals, makes for an excellent CD. The first track blows through at incredible speed, is filled with some great solos...and then suddenly stops in exchange for more of the intro...but with some double bass! It then goes into an all out speed frenzy until fading out. This obviously rules, and is one of those CD's you turn the volume up all the way on.

I highly (!!) recommend this for fans of death metal. But it's structured in a black-metal enough way to please those of us on the other spectrum as well. Take the vocals for example...they sound at times like Dave Vincent, but at other times take a more black-ish harsh yell to them. And the music, although as brutal as anything, can easily appeal to the BM cretins.

Great riffs, brutal speed, excellent vocals, decent lyrics, excellent production, nice solos, and a decent digipak with a reasonable layout make me no less than happy. This destroys. Nothing more can really be said about it :)
