Infernum
...Taur-Nu-Fuin
[Astral Wings]
"Black Metal" is what this could be classified as. And I love every
minute of this. Done in the traditional Polish style, Infernum is
basically the Graveland line-up, but with the members switched around.
Although nowhere as good as Graveland, Infernum do have a special
quality/ambience about them, mainly because the music is done in a truly
trance like fashion.
Everything here is fairly slow paced, and filled with a mass aura of
depressing, yet smooth keyboards, and Polish style vocals. The deep
sounding synths create an excellent feeling of deep depression, combined
with a near "floating" ambience, and coupled with the hate-filled
vocals, the equilibrium is nothing less than successful.
At times moving into soundscapes similar to modern Graveland, Infernum
normally do stay on their own path though. Take the magnificent track,
"Weltmacht Oder Nedergang" for example. It starts out with a painful
sounding synth driven feel, but than drops into some rougher sounding
guitar sections. Or the track "Cathari Sects", where the synth and a
tight guitar riff alternate between themselves, creating a semi-epic
ambience.
A wonderful album by all means. While not quite as good as Graveland, it
should be checked out by all fans of the Polish scene. Another
mentioning is that Infernum are no more. Anextiomarus has been kicked
from Graveland, and for that matter, the entire Polish scene. I'm still
waiting for the un-released version of the second Infernum album to come
out (well, actually come in the mail), and even though it doesn't
contain vocals or track listings, I'll report on it as soon as it comes
in.
