Borknagar
The Olden Domain
[Century Media]

I am sure you are familiar with Borknagar, they are consisted of member of other Norwegian bands such as Enslaved, Ulver, Molested, etc playing a type of folkish black metal on there self titled debut on Malicious Records. Well they are back and on Century Media with a new CD entitled "The Olden Domain". "The Olden Domain" is an epic pagan metal CD incorporating lots of clean vocals with some black vocals (both of which are done brilliantly by Garm), but the clean vocals are more prominent for the most part. All the songs music and lyrics were written by Oystein G. Brun again and the line up is the same apart from new bassist Kai K. Lie replacing Infernus. The structure and musicianship is pretty much the same as the first CD, a little bit tighter and a bit less raw, and incorporates the black vocals mixed with clean vocals more, and this CD is more epic and atmospheric for the most part. Another difference from the first disc is that all the lyrics are in English this time, the lyrical content is very nature oriented, concentrating on the seasons and being close to nature. All in all this is a brilliant disc, I have had this for a few weeks and haven't gotten tired of it yet which is always a good sign of a great CD, if you liked there fist CD there is no reason to not like this and if you haven't heard Borknagar go out and buy there first CD and this CD, it shouldn't disappoint.
