Vore
Dead Kings Eyes
[Frozen Solid]

From Arkansas, USA come Vore, bringing along a neat little doom-death mini-CD. Vore are neither really brutal, nor overly slow and depressing. They are a fairly promising band nonetheless. Combining strong death metal riffing with subdued (except for the constant double bass inoculations) yet effective drumming and slow to mid-paced tempos gives their music plenty of room to breath. You know how brutal death metal can be tensely cluttered with swarms of pounding riffs and blast beats, creating this "wall of sound" impression, like you are being hit by a brick wall. Here the effect is different - like someone unhurriedly yet persistently cutting you with a knife - because the riffing and song structures are more drawn out. The songs, however, don't feel loose because of that since clear production and the band's tight playing keep everything together. Addition of a pretty acoustic track is a nice, diversifying enhancement as well. These six songs will not set the metal world on fire, but if you decide to invest into this release, you can rest assured that your money will not be wasted.
