Lunatic Gods
Sitting By The Fire
[Metal Age]

This is a pretty off-the-wall band from Slovakia, who take a very nonlinear approach with their brand of progressive death metal to combine melody, atmosphere and an aggressive edge in an original, if somewhat erratic manner. The band like to keep their songs very busy. There are loads of unusual, constantly shifting structures, patterns and rhythmic configurations, plenty of quasi-symphonic and ethnic-tinged keyboards that employ influences from European as well as more Eastern brands of folk music, and there are two vocalists whose singing ranges from clean, high and mid level vocals to some fairly decipherable roars. Such idiosyncrasy, however, turned out to be a mixed blessing because things do not always work equally well. Some songs are quite good, while others just fall flat or get lost within their own intricacies. Nonetheless, this band is worth hearing if only for their unconventional style.
