Blacker than ever before as they sounded quite deathly on their demos. This is a good thing because the band are quite decent at making primitive raw melancholic melodies. Vocals are deeper(the aspect of the band that remained death) than on most black metal releases but this isn't a bad thing either as it adds a bit of causticity to the songs. Keys are present but are thankfully kept to a minimum. Production is decent as it's not over emphasized and that works with the nature of this band. Thus Defiled are probably best English black metal band around nowadays.
