Abhorrence is a brutal Death Metal band hailing from Brazil, and must not be confused with the old-school Death Metal band Abhorrence from Finland (pre-Amorphis) that released one demo and one EP at the beginning of the nineties.
With the exposure that got the Brazilian scene with Krisiun and Rebaelliun in the past 3 years, a lot of bands from this country have become more interesting for occidental ears and labels. This release makes no exception, as it is the re-release on CD of their first demo (recorded at the end of 1997), that lead them to contracts with Relapse and Evil Vengeance Records (Gene's - ex-Angel Corpse - label).
So what do you have to expect from this recording ?
Death Metal in the Krisiun way with a sheer dose of brutality and a very good sound. For those of you who don't know Krisiun, just try to imagine a fast mix between old Morbid Angel and Deicide with a dark and blasphemic feeling. Playing is tight and precise, drumming is fast, guitars are technical and riffs are really interesting. The production is not too much powerful, but really clear for a demo. Vocals are really similar to Krisiun ones, but even better according to my tastes, being a little more expressive.
3 tracks for 10 minutes of music is enough for a demo tape, but really short for a professional CD released through a label. Unfortunately, Wild Rags were accustomed to release CDs like this one. I got it directly from the band, and as Wild Rags seems to have stopped all their activities, I think it's the only way to obtain it now.
