Absent Silence
Dawn of a New Mourning
[No Colours]

I assume this would be the first release that would be difficult to label as 'black metal' from No Colours. At first, I was sure this was even worse than that mess of a Vordven CD, but it eventually turned out to be quite decent. This is actually Finnish doom metal, played by individuals who have probably been listening to more black metal than anything. There's some lightly rasped vocals for example, and the doom-death atmosphere here is rather minimal.

I enjoyed tracks one and two, since they are simple, slow, melancholic songs with a decent amount of conviction and power. Other moments, such as the final track, are generic and stale. There doesn't seem to be much originality here though, since some of the riffs make you think "I've heard that before!".

Anyway, this is a quality CD to listen to for relaxation or other tasks where you feel you might need some background music. Not even close to the gods of Finnish doom metal, Absent Silence admittedly need some huge amounts of polish. With a little work, they might be able to create some much more original and powerful doomy metal.
