Gortician
Double Live Fu*kheads
[mp3.com]

I was fortunate enough to have drummer Jason send this in for review, as I don't have a credit card, and I guess Unsung Heroes were sick of me asking for more Gortician! UHR won't get into a legal hassle releasing these mp3's I guess.

1) "Maps of Hell" starts classic; mellow and spooky like old Metallica or Iron Maiden before speeding into oldschool deaththrash (like Chicago's Aftermath, orBritain's the Annihilated) for 20 seconds.

2) Next demo track, "Blazing Morgue", is heavy & choppy with doomy parts. Man, does Timothy Archer sound like a cousin of Obituar's John Tardy or what?! Maybe a little more hardcore in style.

3) "The Avengers" has the bass reverb and almost blow your speakers. Remember if you cranked "And Justice For All" it had that shitty sound. Decent tune nonetheless.

4) Now the "live" (rehearsal) set starts. "Next Religion" is slightly better than on the "Metal Up Your Cunt" or "Wonder Years" CDs, notably due to the sound. "Alien Abduction" gets a better representation too with its fast, chaotic thrash.

5) "Labyrinth's Animator" has become one of my favourite tunes lately. Starts off doomy like early Trouble for 30 seconds, before thrashing louder & crazier than any band I've heard recently. With proper production, this could be in the same league as Australian antichrists Destroyer666 or Bestial Warlust, then again I'm drinking while I type this.

6) "Avatar in the Abbatoir". I got to say, that is a brilliant title! Solid bass playing on this crazy, noisy deathcore fucker.

7) "Kill Jim Morrison" is blinding speed, almost grind. The midtempo part has an amazing guitar solo.

8) "I Hate Canada" is a noisy HC/grindcore throwaway. (Since I'm a Canuck, maybe I'm biased.)

9) Next is a played at the speed of light version of Foghat's "I just want to make love to you". Whooo hooooo!!

10) Sound quality drops. I think this is from the rehearsal demo I reviewed. This sounds like a cover of REM's "End of the world as I know it" with Jeremy of Despondency on vocals. Imagine a rabid, insane dog running in circles and ripping up your yard. Yeah, makes me piss my pants too! Ha ha!

11) Another demo track- "Kick The Chair (clean vocals)". Just like on "The Avengers" track, the bass is reverbing too much, but THIS is the best version because all the instruments can be heard clearly enough.

12) "Blazing Morgue" and 13) "F*ck Jesus Christ" end the disc in fine style.

It is difficult for me to recommend this as everyone I know hates mp3.com. I can't say personally as I don't collect mp3's.

Is this release worth paying $12.74 U.S.? I would like to say yes as I like it, and the band, but I can't. I have no doubts Gortician would love it if this was bootleged to death!!!
