Darkthrone
Total Death
[Moonfog]

Everyone talks about how 'Panzerfaust' copied a little too much of Celtic Frost (well, ok, some of the tracks did), but just listen to the opening track. Fuck, fuck fuck, talk about a blatant rip-off! Literally copied note by note! What I'm referring to of course is that part in 'Visions of Mortality' that stops/starts with the bass overtaking the guitars. Come on guys, you can steal riffs better than that! The title is far from Kreative (ha! genius! Get it?!) either!

Anyway, 'Total Death' won't appeal to most people as much as some of the GRIMMER Darkthrone albums out there, but it's still pretty brutal. My only real complaint would have to be some of the hilarious lyrics contributed by various Norwegian all-stars (Could Garm and Satyr possibly have sillier lyrics? "Sans talent" is more like it!) and the sterile production. I assume they are going for a small throwback to "A Blaze.." but the production is far from powerful like on that recording. It's quite flat actually.

Still, the opening and closing tracks will make most people looking for the Darkthrone style happy, while the rest of the tracks, like a less interesting 'A Blaze..', will keep the metal masses pleased with the most cult of cult evil metal groups. I still consider it to be their weakest moment, sadly.
