Undertakers
Suffering Within
[Cryptic Soul]

I couldn't believe it when I took this CD out of its packaging. A large crucifix stared up from the digipak. After calming myself down, and not setting fire to the packaging, I came to the conclusion that the logo is meant to look like the gates to a cemetery (they've since changed it?). If this is the case, which I assume it is, then the band are probably losing numerous fans who spit on the xtian spirit. A few members are wearing pentagrams, baphomets, etc., while the titles hardly seem pro-xtian.

Undertakers perform brutal death metal with a European influence, similar to Gorefest, or the 'groove' found in bands like Internal Bleeding, and with loads of blast beats. On the other hand, not including the vocals, certain tracks like "Human Decline" and "Killing Machine" have riffs and tempos taken straight from "Tomb of the Mutilated". It's tight and brutal, yes, but Undertakers still haven't found a style that makes them INTERESTING. They have the technical skill, but they need to play around with this a little more before they do anything above "average". It's not hard to find generic, muddy death metal albums out there, so why bother releasing another one (same goes for black, thrash, doom, etc, etc!!!)?!?

Here's a reply (actual words) from Mr. Giannone, after I wrote to him about the logo:

"About the logo it has been changed first of all, because it's enough to receive question: Is Undertakers a Christian Band? NO, WE Don't care about religion, I have made a song called NO SATAN NO GOD The cross was just a symbol of cemetary situation, that's all"
