The Black
The Priest of Satan
[Necropolis]

I was really excited about this CD when it first came out, since Necropolis had previously released two great records before this (when are they going to re-release NR001 and 002 on split CD?), and The Black's demo was also quite promising. This contains most of the same songs, and is in the same style. Sadly, I don't think this group recorded anything that hasn't been released, so we can't expect any surprise discs popping up anytime soon. Hell, the band even used the same photos on each of their releases, making me think the group burnt out rather quickly.

To summarize what the band sound like: think absolute Bathory worship combined with a few moments that are reminiscent of the early Greek black metal scene (melancholic riffs and keyboards). It's a potent mix, and the band makes each individual track and riff standout. Heathens out there who have only been exposed to Dark Funeral-ish depth-free metal, or Emperor style easy listening will NOT enjoy this. On the other hand, others looking for some powerful and traditional black metal will most likely worship this. 'The book of Leviathan', 'The Priest of Satan', 'Towards the Golden Dawn', and 'The Black Opal Eye' all fucking KILL. Hail The Black FOREVER!!!
