Before At the Gates and then Dissection, two bands who spawned countless clones in Sweden, a certain band by the name of Entombed existed. They too produced numerous bands with an uncanny similarity in terms of riffs/drums/vocals - everything! I assume some of you remember reading 'zines around '90-93 The underground was flooded with flyers stating "Swedish death metal" or "Recorded in Sunlight" (and later "NOT recorded in Sunlight!" as a selling tactic).

Dismember were one of the better bands, just as good as Entombed at one point (blech, "Massive Killing Capacity" sure stunk!) and better in certain individuals opinions. This is solid, semi-brutal Swedish style death metal, and it doesn't necessarily even sound stale today. Tracks like "Dismembered" and "Skin her Alive" are great. Nifty riffs can be found in most of the tracks as well.

I think one of the larger controversies surrounding this album were the band photos though. One member in each picture with a large inverted crucifix, another with quite the opposite! I've still to this point never read an explanation for what the fuck was going on in Dismember (besides the obvious). Or how a band with such violent (although at times rather questionable) lyrics would be willing to have a judeo-xtian SLAVE in their band.
