Grond
Winterkriegger
[Folter]

As far as I know, Grond (German, I think there's Czech, Russian, and American Gronds too) have only released one demo (heh, that's all I know about them) before being signed by Folter Records for a few albums. "Winterkrieger" is a fine CD, loaded to the max with black metal that's as solid as material released at the start of the 90s. "Winterkrieger" doesn't do anything new (obviously!), but it's done with style, and that's all that really matters.

Reminding me of the first two Gorgoroth (sometimes, like on "Battlemagic", REALLY reminding me...) albums for the most part, Grond are very much in the style of the more melodic early Norwegian black metal bands. Great high-speed riffs, vocals spat out in the name of hate (vile!), and a chilly atmosphere. Crush the christian spirit! There's millions of riffs going on here, not just "chord 1, chord 2, chord 3". It's a black metal riff assault! 'Tis a pity Infinitus uses a drum machine, but that just barely detracts from the album as a whole.

Just under forty minutes of good old fashioned nasty black metal. Great stuff.
