Anathema
Serenades
[Peaceville]

Classic/great doom death album that never gets silly despite the fact that it really could have. Massive, stunning, near inspiring riffs can be found in songs like "Lovelorn Rhapsody" and "They (Will Always) Die". Mr. White's vocals are really special as well, adding just the correct amount of grunted brutality to make the music sound like a constant, painful barrage of various emotions. With the slight usage of keys, female vocals (on "J'ai fait une promesse"), and the sheer immensity of the music created here, "Serenades" is my favorite Anathema album, and easily one of the top ultra-depressing (lighter) doom/death albums ever. Human life is equivalent to a rubbish bin full of month old pork, and Anathema painfully make that clear.

Without thinking about it for more than a moment, I recommend this.
