Legion
Hell At Last
[Ugly Pop]

A very impressive debut offering from Canadian sons of satan Legion. One might hazard a guess that this would be fairly Marduk influenced by the name, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Take one part proto-death metal (in the vein of Kam Lee era-Death), stick in some Hellhammer/Celtic Frost guitar tones and guitar wobbling, and then top it off with vocals that take their cue from early grindcore (ala Extreme Noise Terror before they became generic as all fuck), and you'd wind up with something remarkably close to this 4 song 7". There's also a healthy Discharge influence in places (ala Wolfpack and some of the other more "metal" influenced Dis-core bands out there) which adds to the ferocity of the overall material. I know some of the more anal retentive black metal types out there will probably have a hard time stomaching the hardcore leanings of Legion, but it's their loss - fans of early American proto-death and grind (Death, Repulsion, etc) should seek this out immediately. I believe it was initially pressed in a limited edition of 1000 copies (which is dangerously close to being sold out at the moment), but I hear rumours of a re-pressing in the near future. Contact Blaspherion Abraxas (guitarist for Legion) for ordering information and general satanic hatred...
