Autopsy
Acts of the Unspeakable
[Peaceville]

The first Autopsy release I ever purchased was 'Fiend for Blood', leaving me numerous years behind the legacy that was Autopsy. I hated that album, and still consider it to be one of Autopsy's worst moments. It wasn't till later that I had a chance to hear other material by the band, and I was really impressed. 'Acts of the Unspeakable' isn't the best moment for Autopsy, but there are still some great tracks.

Such as 'Meat' for example. 'In the Grip of Winter' is one of the best death metal tracks of all time, and 'Meat' gives it a run for its title. DOOM metal basically, and extremely morbid at that, before stepping aside for some brutal death metal, and vise-versa. An amazing song.

Other tracks that are deserving of the Autopsy title (that is, the best death metal overflowing with doom riffs ever) are 'An Act of the Unspeakable', 'Necrocannibalistic Vomitorium', 'Your Rotting Face', and the surprisingly experimental 'Funerality'.

If you consider yourself an individual who has to have at least one release from every important metal band, and you don't have one from Autopsy yet, then you're missing out. Go for 'Severed Survival' with the bonus EP, or the amazing 'Mental Funeral'. I received a notification of someone putting together a collection of old demo/live/rehearsal and unreleased tracks from the band, and if that's true, then everyone is in for a treat.

Also, grab the LP or CS version of this album instead of the CD. The CD (as far as I know, unless other versions exist) is censored as 95% of the painting is cropped off.
