Sunchariot
Betrayal Light of Fertile Grounds
[Soundscape]

Ah yes, another Russian black metal band. Very atmospheric this time around, as the band make heavy usage of clean guitars, keyboards, and a flute. There's still enough fast black metal here to prevent this from being labeled as overdone folk-metal.

Before I heard this, I'd read a few reviews that compared the mCD to Lord Belial's "Kiss the Goat". Recognizing the fact that Sunchariot have a female flute player, I assumed that this was the reason why. The first track "Mother Ground" does have some similarities to the opening track on "Kiss the Goat" though! It's very minor, yes, but you can still hear some similar riff/vocal combinations going on here. This five-track recording is better than anything Lord Belial did on their debut, as a side note, although that's hardly a compliment.

The band does move away from that, and do their own thing as the album moves on. There's some quality riffs presented here, and the occasional acoustic/flute break does add some necessary variation to the fast tunes. Decent stuff, but far from incredible.
