At The Gates
Slaughter of the Soul
[Earache]

The album that in my opinion, defines the Gothenburg melodic thrash sound.

This was "the great" At the Gate's last album, and they ended on quite a positive note in my opinion.

The music is fast, thrashy, and at times very melodic, without being weak sounding. Tomas Lindberg's vocal attack is deranged as ever (this man invented high pitched death vocals).

Sure the album isn't quite as brutal, or as good as Red in the Sky is Ours or With I Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness, but I don't think that's a good reason for the album getting such a bad wrap.

Standout tracks: Blinded by Fear, Slaughter of the Soul, and World of Lies

Grade for those too lazy or illiterate to read the review: A
