Deicide
When Satan Lives
[Roadrunner]
This kicks ass! It's maybe one of the best live albums I've heard. First of
all, the production is excellent, the songs sound very good with a reasonable
amount of crowd noise in the mix. Lord Benton's voice sounds very clean on
the album, but as on studio albums, the bass is hardly done any justice (you
can't even hear it). Drums sound fucking awesome, Steve Asheim really acts
like a "cursed drum slayer from hell" (Check out the China cymbal that Steve
uses, sounds great!). As for the guitar duties, the Hoffman brothers really
did a fantastic job, both in rhythm and in their lead parts. To make the
guitar sound even heavier live, they use a powerful Swedish distortion (I
think it's a Swedish distortion, I'm not too sure about that), really high
pitched, I don't know how they can't go deaf after using that distortion.
The playlist is mostly "Serpents" and "Once upon the cross" oriented, which
is good in a way, but I wanted to hear more "Deicide" and "Legion" material
as well. Anyway, this is a very good album, a most have for any Deicide fan.
Highlights: "Sacrificial Suicide" (Awesome!!!), "Deicide", "Serpents of the
Light", "When Satan rules his world", "Dead by Dawn" and "Oblivious to Evil".
