Abigor
Nachthymnen
(From the Twilight Kingdom)
[Napalm]

This was the third release from Austria’s ABIGOR, this was the one where you might have thought they went/would be going commercial.

They have synths here, female vocals, melodic riffs straight out of Swedish black metal and lyrics filled with woe, flying away with the winterwinds, medieval romanticism, not-feeling-at-home-in-this-stupid-world and other goth girl cliches. Euronymous is mentioned and there is a Viking lyric.

As an ABIGOR fan, I must say I still like this album a lot, even if it is in many ways the weakest ABIGOR album ever. The speed and intensity of playing in these songs brings across a brutality which successfully neutralizes the blemishes of self-pity and also gives the feeling a bit of the grandeur it needs to rise above mundanity. Note the blatant lyrical rip-offs from AT THE GATES and SENTENCED.
