Ungod
Circle of the Seven Infernal Pacts
[Merciless]

Ungod's first CD, and Merciless' first too (great label!). Nothing but straight-forward, low-fi black metal here, with riffs that we've heard in numerous Darkthrone tracks before. Ungod are nothing original, but they are a good band to search out if you just can't get enough quality, northern sounding black metal.

Obviously the band are influenced by the same originals that Darkthrone were, and you can't call them clones in the first place, since they literally have walked hand in hand in terms of history. There's the brooding long winded Celtic Frost style riffs in songs like "Magicus Tulis Damnation", the more depressing style of Hellhammer in "Land of the Frozen Tears", and the more developed Bathory style (as heard on "A Blaze in the northern sky") on a healthy percentage of the tracks.

Ripping, simple, classic stuff. Easy to appreciate, and even easier to review!
