Seth
Les Blessures de l'Ame
[Seasons of Mist]

The bastardized swastika variation in their logo is gone, replaced by a generic blurb mentioning that "our band doesn't have any political connection - we swear!" - ho, hum, nothing new here. Disregarding the fact that the "mighty and majestic" VVA thinks rather highly of himself, SO highly that he doesn't mind referring to Nagash of Dimmu Borgir in a deeply homosexual manner (re: credits), Seth haven't changed much either. A better production, a more developed thanks list kissing every Norwegian arse they've come by, and a switch from English to French lyrics.

They do sound more like Dimmu Borgir now than before, the keyboards are almost a perfect audio copy of those on "Stormblast", while the underlying guitar riffs tend to copy that album as well. Seth, unlike "Stormblast" are a rather fast band, and there's tons of triggered double bass coming from the drumkit. I don't like this as much as the mCD (probably because of the over-emphasis on keyboards now), but I can't find anything really wrong with it. Besides the fact that it's boring, overproduced, and forgettable. Like the mCD it's good background music - an album to listen to while reading or doing something secondary to actually paying attention to the stereo - but again, nothing catchy like the mCD. Is it fitting that I picked up a loaf of French bread on the way home, only to find this album in my mailbox? Probably not! I'd rather waste my money on bread though, good thing for trades…

Apparently signed to Osmose, with a new album on the way featuring the likes of Fenriz and Maniac - if they can survive that long though. A little birdie (or better yet, "froggie") has mentioned numerous instances where acts of physical violence have been committed against the band recently. I don't have a good reason why our beret wearing friends hate this quartet so much, all I ever get from them is "traitor" this and "traitor" that. Who really cares though? It would make more sense to flood France and just forget about the entire thing…
