Dismember
Death Metal
[Nuclear Blast]

A Dismember-release from -97 that I found quite enjoyable the first day or two, but then it hit me: damn I hate that so called “sunlightsound”. For those unfamiliar with the term the story goes as followed: This specific type of sound is named (which you probably already figured out) after The Sunlight Studio in Stockholm, Sweden. If one is to try to describe the sound the name Entombed pretty much sums it all up. The conclusion we can draw from this is the following: every band that records their work in Studio Sunlight is given the sunlightsound and now I mean every fucking one of them. As it turned out Sunlight even succeeded in fucking up Gorgoroth's latest release and adding them to the cadre of Entombed-clones already existing out there (that Gorgoroth's work in general have taken a turn for the worse is another matter).

Now don’t get me wrong here. I’m not saying that Dismember is the suckiest suckers who ever sucked, what I mean is: the sound is old, we’ve all heard it before and it’s getting boring. There is a lot of talent and good ideas in Dismember but the way I feel about it is that the sound takes away the interest one might have when picking up the CD. We already have to many bands cloning other bands, we don’t need a studio to produce different bands to sound exactly the same.

As for the CD, pretty old-school death metal that we’ve all heard before, can become more interesting with a different production. Recommended for people with a passion for the sunlightsound only.

The song “Misanthropic” is a killer though.
