Behemoth
Satanica
[Avante Gard]

This really pissed me off. When I first heard this album it had 8 tracks and two bonus tracks. Then I got it in a trade and it only had 7 tracks total!

But to actually review this records:

Oh man this album kills!

Luckily enough this was my introduction to Poland's Behemoth, and listening to their earlier albums such as "Grom", these guys made the right choice to completely change their sound.

While they started off imitating raw black metal bands, they have now (inadvertently) moved to a sound reminiscent of the "Northern hyperblast" bands such as Kataklysm. Blasting drums , brutally heavy vocals, but with a more "futuristic" guitar sound. The lyrics shift around the subjects of Satanism, sorcery, and alchemy which are consistently intriguing.

Pros: Superb musicianship, fascinating subject matter, great song writing, incredibly brutal
Cons: Avoid the 7 track version! Some black metal purists may have a problem with their conversion to death metal.

(9.5/10)
