Vio-Lence
Oppresing The Masses
[Megaforce/Atlantic]

Another bargain bin find for me! This Bay Area act rode in on the last crest of thrash (1990) before being shadowed by the death metal explosion. Their 1987 (89?) demo had killer riffs and songs like Kill On Command, Bodies on Bodies, and Parapalegic (or am I thinking of another band?)

Sean Killian's whiny vocals were similar to John Connelly of Nuclear Assault, but not as harsh or menacing. That's one reason VIO-LENCE wasn't well liked. Wimpy singing. The other was they were a Bay Area technical thrash metal act. The production by Alex Perialas and engineering by Rob 'Wacko' Hunter is top notch, just as professional and heavy as Exodus or Metallica.

You either like this snappy double bass tight playing excellent musicianship, or you don't. The solos would make the H-Team proud. Unfortunately, mostly fast, quick paced (ie.Kreator/Exodus speed) songs are here, not enough variety to hold you for the whole cd, and there's really only only filler track, Engulfed in Flames. Songs that get more playtime are I Profit, Subterfuge, World in a World, and Mentally Afflicted, although Liquid Courage used to be the fans favourite if I remember right.

Note: this is Rob Flynn's old band. He plays in some crappy band like Machinehead now.

TRAX:
I Profit/ Officer Nice/ Subterfuge/ Engulfed By Flames/ World in a World/ Mentally Afflicted/ Liquid Courage/ Oppressing The Masses
