This now, now this is new and modern black metal the way I wish to hear it. Standing on the shoulders of giants like Darkthrone, Immortal and Emperor, these americans unify different traditions of black metal into a work seething with hatred and madness and brutality even.

Production is digital so thus crisp and clear, but still this is some pretty raw stuff. Averse Sefira craft lengthy narrative songs but often a cycle of greater structures can be heard, thus hearing riffs from the beginning of the song in a slightly different context. These songs make use of raw black metal ideas and shifting drum patterns underneath. There isn't really much full-on blasting, rather alternating rhythms, but with a constant double-bass assault and lots of bombastic cymbal crashes. Melodic accents are rare (there are no keyboards in the songs either, and no guitar leads) and sometimes the riffage brings back memories of old Emperor, or other foundational bands for modern black metal. By no means this is copying however; an american brand of brutality has been integrated into the music (don't expect any death metal influences though!).

Further things to be expected here are insane screaming (must be heard), ambientish intermezzos which, despite the danger of cheese, do their work well in clearing a bit up between the long songs (although they are by no means 'light-hearted' or something) and a 'secret' track after no. 7.

Also the cheesy (undoubtedly intentional) clean vocals in track 5 are great; a pleasant sense of humour. I think that sums it up all nicely; now, to get that stuff imported to Europe... there is a task here.
