Morgion
Solinari
[Relapse]

Who said the Americans do not know how to make superb music?! Please prepare yourselves to be introduced to the American parallel to England’s My Dying Bride - Morgion. When I say ‘parallel’, I refer to the sheer musical intensity, quality and wisdom incorporated into the sounds and texts - But much more exciting, in every aspect. I am trying to search for the right words without expressing to many cliches or songs of praise. One can write so much regarding this album, but things need to be short and clear. When writing about music, the hardest thing is to express the experience and emotions of listening - to hard paper copy. I will try as best as I can manipulate language, to describe the pure adventure which is called ‘Solinari’. First thing that came to mind was that Morgion is very reminiscent of MindRot’s ‘Dawning’ (Relapse Rec., 1995). Whomever is familiar with the above mentioned art work, knows what I am talking about; Heavy as hell, melodic as a ballet dancer, minimalist and effective keyboards, low-toned sad singing stitched with brutal death growls - brutal, yet so exquisite, and all is bathing within a super-dark atmosphere, gothic and mysterious, that only Morgion can produce. The texts are of the most mature, interesting and profound I have ever encountered. A whole philosophy of ancient knowledge and wisdom, that may be interpreted in a thousand ways - Metaphorically or literally. The written word is of the highest quality, a real poetry. The music can be described as a soundtrack for the end of the world, slow and sensual, music to penetrate the bones, flows in the blood stream and brings the listener to a spiritual and physical orgasm. Morgion combines the beauty and power into a third thing which is far more than the sum of its ingredients. These two extremes engulf the listener from all sides, while he discovers with each passing moment a new element in the gloomy ambience. Hypnotizing sounds that enlighten dark places (or darken illuminated ones), music by which you will be taken on a journey of new discoveries. A long album (53 minutes), long songs, not boring for one second. Wonderful production, crystal clear, talented musicians which give a lesson in creativity to anyone. The graphic design and layout are very well done. All in all, superb job of all the persons that worked hard in order to bring us the joy of this masterpiece. Highly recommended.
