Unleashed
Shadows In The Deep
[Century Media]

Urrrgggh... No more shall we pray for peace! This is a fucking excellent example of swedish death metal, back then big Johnny and the boys knew how to write brutal riffs, and thrash away in a manner that makes it hard not to bang your head. This is swedish death metal the way it should be, not like all that pathetic melodic "me so happy and gay" type of crap, we hear from most swedish pseudo death metal acts these days. Now the older Unleashed albums are even better than this one, and the ones after are less good, because Unleashed has always had a quite strange trait, namely they got progressively more and more boring and lifeless, each new release was in the same vein as the others, just less energetic, and their best work is naturally their demos, but up to this album at least they still managed to pull off some killer death metal, "Victory" which I think was the next album, or the one after that, not entirely sure I must admit, anyway it was also a listenable album, but it was quite clear that Unleashed was becoming a band more and more just going through the motions, which is really to bad for they had their glory days. Besides you can't really go wrong with a decent cover of Venom now can you? And they should always be given credit for having one of the coolest logos in metal history... Onward into countless battles
