Take a death metal band who lives and breaths for pointless progression, which appears to have turned to regression somewhat in the larger context of metal, allow them some albums time to move away from death metal completly, and end up in some pretty dull heavy metal, add what genuinely sounds like a grunge vocalist, and you end up with this. It's not that I am so vehemently against them evolving away from death metal, as I never liked their death metal albums, but I must say this album isn't good, I mean the playing is impeccable, but the songs are just rather dull old fashioned heavy metal mainly, however not dull because they sound like old fashioned metal, just that their form of it is somewhat dull, but then old fashioned heavy metal was often carried by some excellent vocalists, which is the weakest point in this peice of work, the vocalist simply can't deliver, which is really to bad because with a good vocalist this might actually have been at least a decent album, but alas such is not the way.
