Megiddo
The Devil And The Whore
[Barbarian Wrath]
Megiddo's first full-length album was unleashed upon us earlier this year. From what
I've heard of the demos, I could tell this was going to be good, especially since
ChorazaiM got himself a real drummer instead of the drummachine he'd been using for
the demos. And I wasn't disappointed. The Devil and The Whore is a splendid journey
back to the 80's, when blackmetal took its first primitive steps.
And as far as raw sound goes, this is it. Everything's crystal clear, but draped in
a wall of grimy distortion and thundering drums. The riffs are primitive and
raw, with a certain feeling of melody that never gets too overwhelming, there's no
trace of the "Gothenburg Sound". Too bad the voice is so distorted, I think it would
have sounded better to approach it like Nocturno Culto did on the godly "Panzerfaust".
But nonetheless: this is the blackmetal album of the year.
