Deicide
Once Upon The Cross
[Roadrunner]

After seeing these guys perform live the other night, I decided it would be worthwile to write in and give my two sense about them... Here goes. As many of you may know, Deicide was forged in the ruins of the mighty Amon, a somewhat more Satanic/ black metal approach to the same aggresive ideology. I believe they became officialy defunct in the latter part of the eighties, only to be quickly followed by the formation of Deicide, and the release of their debut s/t album. With this, I personally believe the band brought the idea of Death metal to new heights, and totally blew half the pathetic scum bands out there into submission. Deicide at the time was really not ALL that different from what they have slowly evolved to, and in fact, I think in the death metal "scene" of today, so centered around childish "gore" and "mutilation" themes, they have proven themselves to the true Monolith of Satanic destruction and war. Soon afterwards, in 1992 if I am correct, the band's most known album to date was let loose upon the masses. It was entitled Legion, and it was the total epitome of what all death metal at that time should have strived for. Blasting and aggresive, with some of the best layered vocalls heard. By now the band had made a lasting mark on the scene, and had written some of thier classic songs of today such as "trifixion," and the infamous "dead by dawn." In the next few years, I really have no recollection of what they were specifically up to, and personally I don't give a shit either... However, in 1995, once more the band came through and released what I consider to be thier best output, namely "Once upon the Cross." Incorporating some of the best song structures (When Satan Rules His World) and all time best chorus lines (Kill The Christian), Once Upon the Cross once again made a lasting impact on myself, and I would assume many other fans as well. As for what these blokes have been up to lately, again, I cant say... I have not bothered to hear anything past Serpents of the Light. Nor do I have any desire to. However, in closing I would like to make it clear that Deicide, although great in the privacy of ones own home, is certianly not one to be missed live. Hopefully you will not have to share the experience with SO MANY TRENDY FUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like I did.
