Abruptum
Hextum Galaem Zelog
[Independent]

Although not nearly as good as either the "Satanist Tunes" or the 7", this demo is still interesting in many respects. Musically we see a side of Abruptum not brought out and evolved again until the "De Profundus" MCD; a good clear production (at least on the drums), and an emphasis on actual song structure rather than the dark ambience they later pursued. Furthermore, we see many of the same musical influences that were apparent on the MCD, for example, the low, guttural growls that froth in the depths. The songs are repetitive, short, and for all practical purposes, rather boring as well. The same two or three chords are used over and over; although bland from a technical perspective, I can understand the purpose behind this almost hypnotic repetition, as I know the meditative states it can evoke within the listener. Drums remain slow for most of the demo, but get really fast for a few seconds during the end. Not really noteworthy in any respect, but perhaps of interest for the fans. If you have heard tracks off the S.T demo you have a good idea of what to expect; basically doom-death metal with characteristic twisted screams and moans. I have heard that the bassist left the band and joined a church after he released this demo. PUSSY! This sounds like Bethlehem! This has a great intro and outro.
