Sprecher’s Root Beer

Not being a fan of soft drinks means that they rarely come into your life, but periodically one manifests itself that makes a strong case for its value. The root beer produced by the Sprecher brewery seems to be one of these.

According to the brewery, this beverage contains: carbonated water, glucose syrup, maltodextrin, raw honey, natural and artificial flavors, sodium benzoate (as a preservative), phosphoric acid, quillaia/yucca extract, sodium chloride, and caramel color. It provides the kind of spicy, tangy flavor that old-time root beers did, without excessive carbonation or cloying sweetness.

The Sprecher brewery claims to use an exclusive process:

Today Sprecher is one of the only breweries in the U.S. that still uses a unique fire-brewing process that caramelizes the flavors to give Sprecher’s craft sodas and beers big bold flavor.

Perhaps in this wasteland of simplified and amplified flavors, symbols, ideas, images, experiences, and loyalties, it is worth taking the time for the few who are going through a more complex path, even if still working within the framework of the economic and social order of our day.
