Biosphere – Angel’s Flight (2021)

Biosphere started out with songs that roughly followed a looping pattern, adding different sounds in layers, but with Angel’s Flight, aims to use themes more thoroughly, building each song around a melody and multiple counterparts in both sound texture and other phrases.

At the core of this Biosphere utilizes its most powerful tool, namely the unnervingly incomplete melodies that gesture at something lost or unfound, creating a profound sense of displacement and mortality. Sampled classical riffs and longer melodies elaborating on previous themes add layers to this central pulsing ambiguous and seductive atmosphere.

Ambient music creates spaces where rock music makes statements, but with this latest release, Biosphere comes closer to telling a story within the world created by an album. Like the best of postmodern music, it takes us away from the mundane into the surreal so the ordinary can be seen with new eyes.
