Opeth fans identified

The object of the bronies’ fascination is “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic,” a remake of a 1980s animated TV show for preadolescent girls featuring plucky, candy-colored equines.

Bronies say their hobby has nothing to do with their sexuality or gender. “I don’t care about showing to the world that I am masculine,” says Jason Subhani, a 19-year-old college student in Astoria, N.Y. A Pony poster on his bedroom wall mingles with images of heavy-metal icons. – WSJ

We have found the great source of Opeth, Mastodon, Isis, Kylesa, DEP, Rage Against the Machine, Tool, etc. fans — they’re not gay, they’re sit-down-to-pee types.

Consort, summon my legion of rape-vultures. We must feast on the prostates of the self-enslaved.

Help us by recording a radio show

One of our users, Devolved, has launched his own radio show called Are You Morbid? It’s old school underground metal (OSUM) with dark ambient. He will be on again tonight. We recorded the show last week, but this week, we need some help. Can any of you record this live stream from 6-8 PM PST tonight?

Here are some basic instructions. All you need to do is

  • Go to your audio controls (double-click on speaker in system tray), select File->Properties, then select Recording from the radio buttons. Make sure Line In is represented and not muted.
  • Go to your audio program (Audacity, Soundforge) and in your recording options, select Line In or Stereo Mix.

This will record whatever is playing on your computer. Save the file as an MP3 and upload.

Hekate: “Sonnentanz” now available

The re-issue of Hekate’s “Sonnentanz” album in Digipak format with revised artwork and a limited printrun of 700 copies is out now!

Originally released in 2000 by Well of Urd, “Sonnentanz” became something of a cornerstone of German Neofolk. Conceptionally dedicated to the free spirit of the ‘Bündische Jugend’ (German youth movement) and the ‘Edelweißpiraten’ (Edelweiss pirates), Germany’s “lost youth” of the 1930s, Hekate’s music here is marked by a folkloric acoustic style that sets the standards for the years to come.

Illegal downloading

Scott Ian makes a few points:

Before the Internet, the only way to steal music was to walk into a music store and physically walk out with something, and you were stealing, and you knew it. You knew, unless you’re a fucking maniac, that there was a consequence. If you got caught, you were going to get in trouble.

On the Internet, there is no consequence for stealing. Nobody gets in trouble for stealing music, nobody gets in trouble for stealing movies. Illegal downloading has no consequence. So until there is a consequence, it’s going to happen more and more and more, and people are going to see less and less original and good content from the record industry and movie industry. – Anthrax’s Scott Ian: Take Away Illegal Downloaders’ Internet Privileges

First, he’s right — it’s stealing, if it’s the only way you get the album.

My experience is that with underground music, people who download tend to later buy the album, and those that do not had no plans to buy anything anyway.

For mainstream music, all bets are off. Then again, the attention span there is much shorter.

Maybe it’s time for Scott Ian and Co. to either make music like Beyonce, or make music like Incantation.

No middle ground.
