Dark Funeral to re-issue first six albums including In the Sign…

dark_funeral-in_the_signDark Funeral, the Swedish black metal band started by Necrophobic guitarist David Parland (whose untimely demise this year shocked the metal world), has a long and storied career. The band is now re-releasing its earlier works with the usual remaster and rare tracks treatment.

The important album to look forward, however, is In the Sign…. This one, which features the guitar work and composition of Parland, shows melodic Swedish black metal at its raging best. With the energy of Belial, and the general aesthetic of a simplified Dissection, early Dark Funeral is a more heavy metal take on black metal that often resembles tremolo-picked version of Ride the Lightning.

In the Sign… as re-issued will be almost twice as long, with the original self-titled MCD/EP combined with four Bathory covers to produce an approximation of an eight-song album. These titles will be released in Europe on September 9 and in North America on November 12 via Century Media Records.

Excuse me, but I have to be anal about this.

“with the original self-titled MCD/EP combined with four Bathory covers to produce an approximation of an eight-song album.”

    An approximation?
If you know how many songs the MCD/EP had originally and you know there will be 4 songs added, why do you need to needlessly call this an approximation?

    1. fallot says:

Well it would be an approximation of a full album if it is 4 original tracks with 4 covers added in a re-release no? Quite fair and accurately descriptive.

  2. Anthony says:

Didn’t Dork Funeral just do this like four years ago? The reissue of their EP (their best material) will be helpful for greenhorn black metallers, but I would hope that by now, most of us own that already. Personally, I own the semi-bootleg version that combines the whole Dark Funeral EP (Bathory covers included) with the Von demo.

Early Dark Funeral is actually rather underrated, particularly that EP which sounds like a natural continuation of the music Blackmoon wrote for the second Necrophobic album. It’s too bad they went for the Dimmu Borgir crowd later on.

    1. fallot says:

Aesthetically they were on that weak satanic bullshit right from the EP so they were probably geared towards that crowd earlier than that. Blackmoon being a great metal musician is what saves it, lyrically it is still pretty cringe inducing.

  3. Lord Mosher says:

HIGH TIDE (1969) is one of the most important underground hard rock bands from Britain and also a very influential group , although they never managed to achieve much commercial success. Their sound in their two historical album can be linked as one of the first examples of Heavy Metal music and even Prog Metal.

HIGH TIDE is a highly influential underground band likely to please all Prog Metal fans looking for roots of their beloved music style.
