Evil Damn – Necronomicon (2021)

Following the lead of South American bands like Mortem and Krisiun, Evil Damn charge ahead with fast riffs from the early days of death metal before the genre fully separated from speed metal, but keep the influence on speed rather than choppy riffs, making an energetic and seamless listening experience.

Unlike so many of their contemporaries from around the world, this band understands how to make riffs fit together and reject anything extraneous, but can also vary rhythm and general riff shape enough that the music does not become as fungible as hot water surging from a tap, and from a distance sound very similar.

With a Sarcófago cover to emphasize its origins, this band blends together all of the riff ideas you would have found compelling in the 1983-1987 era, then invents its own variants, creating an enjoyable listening experience that proudly breaks no new ground but radiates its own personality.

  1. Shidding my Pands says:

This album needs to be at least 10% faster.

Have you ever considered doing comparative analysis of artistic development?

E.g. art since the renaissance vs metal since the 80s etc.
